Wedding reportage in Vienna: how I cover your day
Photography: Marina Danilova

From getting ready to the party: how I cover a wedding in Vienna as reportage, when I step in, and where the editorial portraits fit into the day.
What does wedding reportage in Vienna look like?
For reportage I observe and step in only when needed, for example with light, with moving between places or with group photographs. You do not have to stage anything for the camera. The images come from what happens on your day: glances and conversations.
Alongside that is a part we shape deliberately: your couple portraits. We take time for them and work with light and composition. That is how I work at weddings. I have been photographing for over twenty years, including for magazines.
Each does a different job. The portrait gives you space together; the reportage records how you experienced the day with other people. When you look at my pictures, pay attention to both: the quiet portraits and the moments with your guests.
What do I photograph from getting ready to the party?
That depends on the hours you book. If I am there from getting ready, I photograph the preparations and details such as clothing and rings. If you would like a first look, we plan it in advance.
At the ceremony I capture the entrance and the exchange of rings, then the congratulations from family and friends. We discuss the group photographs beforehand so nobody has to search for long.
Dinner and the party include speeches and conversations with your guests. This is the part where I step in least. Prestige, with up to 12 hours, is designed for the whole arc from getting ready to the celebration; Signature, with up to 8 hours, tells the day as one connected story.
When do the editorial portraits happen?
Portraits need calm. So I plan them as a separate part, for example between the ceremony and the meal or in the evening when the light gets softer. I guide you on posture, movement and light. You do not need any experience in front of a camera.
The photographs in this article are from Marco and Laura’s wedding at Palais Coburg in Vienna, where we photographed between the rooms, the staircase and the garden.
What do you receive after the wedding?
Depending on the package, you receive 200, 400 or 600 images with colour and light editing. Of these, 20, 40 or 60 are professionally retouched. We agree the delivery date in the proposal, because it depends on how many images I select and edit.
How do you plan the day in Vienna?
Start with the fixed points, such as the ceremony and the meal. If the ceremony and the celebration are at different places, the travel between them is part of the plan. A plan for rain and a little slack mean you do not have to make every decision again on the day. If a lot happens at once, I can add a second photographer for parallel events. For planning a registry office ceremony, see my article on it. Send me the places and times in advance, a list of the group photographs you want and anything you would rather not have photographed.
Packages start at €1,999 (Pure), €3,999 (Signature) and €5,999 (Prestige). What the price depends on is explained in a separate article. For a first enquiry, your date, place and a rough schedule are enough. I reply within 24 hours.
