Skin, makeup and your visual direction
The crop of a beauty photograph helps determine what we notice: lip colour, eye makeup, skin or facial expression. For a brand project, we first establish which product or look should be the focus. This selection shows different photographic approaches in colour and black and white.
Images for campaigns, websites and social media
A close facial detail for social media calls for a different composition from a magazine image with room for a headline. Include your intended media, image formats and products in the brief, along with the required looks, model, makeup team and number of finished images. This helps align the concept, shoot and final selection.
Agreeing on skin, light and retouching
Before the shoot, we discuss the desired look using visual references, including the treatment of skin texture, shine and colour. The scope and style of retouching form part of the proposal. When several looks are needed, a shot list helps keep the shoot and selection focused.

What should a beauty photography enquiry include?
Include the brand or publication, products, desired looks, intended image use and timing. Mention any model, makeup team or studio already arranged. You do not need a finished concept for the first conversation.
Is beauty photography the same as product photography?
Beauty photography here focuses on faces, skin and makeup on a model. For packaging or the product itself, explore still-life photography. If you need both, we can include both types of images in the brief.
How do we plan skin, makeup and retouching?
First decide what the photograph should show: lip colour, eye makeup or skin texture, for example. Lighting and composition need to support that goal. Use references to discuss how natural or stylised the finished image should look. Agree on retouching before the shoot so makeup, lighting and post-production work towards the same result.
How do we plan several beauty looks in one shoot?
For each look, list the product, makeup, crop and required formats. Allow for lighting changes and hair or makeup adjustments. A small product change is not always a small production step. Prioritise essential shots and agree on a practical sequence with the team before committing to a fixed number of looks.
Can the shoot also include packaging and cosmetics products?
If you also need photographs of the product itself, include still-life shots as a separate part of the enquiry. Specify packaging variants, important details and intended use. A styled product photograph and a standard online-shop image serve different purposes, so the required visual approach needs to be clear.
